Many of you have chosen Madrid as your new city in which to live the experience of studying abroad. It’s certainly a great choice. Madrid has a million advantages and, although the ones that stand out the most are its great cultural and leisure offers, we have to tell you that its incredible public transport service is also one of them. In Madrid you can use different means of transport at a very affordable price thanks to the Public Transport Card. Do you know how to get your Transport Season Ticket in Madrid? Transport Season Ticket

When we talk about the Transport Season Ticket in Madrid, we are referring to the Public Transport Card. This card is personal and non-transferable, and contains personal details such as your name and surname and an identifying photo. You can obtain it in two ways:

  • Online, through the Consorcio de Transportes de la Comunidad de Madrid website. You can enter all your details completely online and ask for the card to be sent to your home address. It will take you approximately one week to receive it.
  • In person. You can go to any of the physical offices, requesting an appointment. In this way, you will receive your card immediately at the office.

Whether you do it online or in person, the cost of issuing your card is €4.

Necessary documentation

 If you decide to apply for your Transport Season Ticket online, you must provide your ID number and a passport-size colour photo of yourself.

If you decide to go to one of the offices in person, you will need to present:

  • Your original identity document and a photocopy of it, regardless of whether or not you are Spanish.
  • Original supporting documents and a photocopy of the same in the case of belonging to a large general or special family or having a disability equal to or greater than 65%.
  • You do not need to bring a photo, as it will be taken at the office on the day of the appointment.

Types of Transport Season Ticket

The Transport Season Ticket is what goes “inside” your Public Transport Card. In other words, the type of fare that corresponds to you. There are three different types, depending on your age:

  • Children: for children aged 4, 5 and 6.
  • Youth: between 6 and 26 years of age.
  • Normal: between 26 and 64 years of age.
  • Senior: from 65 years of age.

Transport Season Ticket Fares

The Children’s Transport Season Ticket is completely free, the Youth Transport Season Ticket costs €20 per month and the Senior one costs €9.30 per month. Holders of any of these types of tickets can use the metro and light rail network, the urban and interurban bus network and Renfe commuter trains at the above-mentioned prices.

However, for those people who have a Normal Ticket, the monthly fares will be as follows:

  • 54,60€ – Zone A
  • 63,70€ – Zone B1
  • 72€ – Zone B2
  • 82€ – Zone B3
  • 89,50€ – Zone C1
  • 99,30€ – Zone C2
  • 110,60 – Zone E1
  • 131,80 – Zone E2

All types of season tickets can be paid monthly or annually.

Additional information

If you have the Youth Transport Season Ticket, you will also have a series of advantages such as free entry to some of the most important museums in Madrid, such as the Reina Sofía Museum, the Prado Museum or the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum.
