If you’re spending the summer in Madrid, there’s no need for us to tell you about the high temperatures… You’ve already seen it for yourself. But what we can do is recommend the best parks in the Spanish capital, where you can cool off in the afternoons and take refuge under the shade of a tree. Let’s get started!

El Retiro Park

What’s not to like? The most famous park in the city, the largest and the Madrid park par excellence. The good thing about El Retiro is that you can even visit it for several days without repeating sights or activities. El Retiro Park has 125 hectares and more than 15,000 trees, which means more than 15,000 shadows where you can relax for a while.

In addition, we recommend you to take a boat ride on the park’s pond when the sun is already setting. You’ll enjoy the cooler temperature in the afternoon and beautiful views of the park from the middle of the pond.

You can also visit El Retiro to spend some time reading outdoors, listening to music or playing sports. If you are going to do sport, remember not to expose yourself too much to the sun and always stay well hydrated.

Madrid Río

This is another of the capital’s great parks. The Madrid Río Park is located on the banks of the Manzanares River, which brings the river closer to the enjoyment of the people of Madrid. It is a total of 7 kilometres long, along which you can find green areas, playgrounds and terraces where you can stop for a cool drink.

Casa de Campo

Now, after El Retiro and Madrid Río, we come to the largest public park in Madrid. Casa de Campo is one of the largest urban parks in the world and has a lake with a jetty where you can cool off. You can also take refuge from the heat along its vegetation-filled paths or stop to hydrate yourself in any of the bars-restaurants located around the lake.

Campo del Moro

We recommend you visit this park if you enjoy getting in touch with nature. Campo del Moro is the perfect place to take refuge from the heat in the heart of Madrid. It is full of trees, so it is a very cool garden with lots of shade, and you can also find different species of animals, such as peacocks.
