We are still in summer, in Madrid and in a desperate situation due to the heat. To calm the situation a little, last week we brought you some ideas of air-conditioned places to take refuge from the heat. This week, we continue along the same path and we bring you cultural centres and activities in Madrid where you can cool off and have a good time.

 

First of all, you should know that Madrid is the capital of Spain. It is therefore the city with the greatest number of cultural activities on offer in the country. Apart from the activities we are going to show you in this post, there are many other exhibitions, performances, etcetera. Here we go!

Conde Duque Cultural Centre

This cultural centre is located in the central neighbourhood of Malasaña. Although the building where it is located was built in the 18th century, it has been a cultural centre since 2011. It was in this year when some of its facilities were inaugurated: The Municipal Historical Library, the Municipal Newspaper Library of Madrid and the Museum of Contemporary Art, among others.

Matadero Madrid

The Matadero Madrid Centre for Contemporary Creation is currently located in the former industrial slaughterhouse in Madrid. It is a cultural centre with a film library, classrooms for workshops, exhibition halls, and so on.

In addition, this cultural centre also offers, from time to time, talks and debates in which citizens present their ideas on cinema, reading, painting… It’s a great way to learn Spanish if you are new to Spain and want to start speaking the language!

La Tabacalera

This is another case of making the most of old abandoned facilities in the city of Madrid. The former tobacco factory in Madrid is now home to the Tabacalera cultural centre. It is a space for the promotion of art in all its forms. Although, more specifically, the Tabacalera holds exhibitions of photography, contemporary art and areas related to the visual arts.

Centro Cultural de la Villa

In this case, this cultural centre also acts as a theatre and is known as the Fernán Gómez Theatre. It is located in the Plaza de Colón and has four different halls where they offer dance and music shows, as well as children’s shows, conferences, workshops and exhibitions.
