We are at the gates of one of the most anticipated holidays by students in Spain. The December holiday 2020 always warns us that we are at the gates of Christmas. This year, besides, we have two holidays and of course, it is inevitable to think about everything that we can NOT do due to the pandemic.

Surely this last week you have not stopped listening to the importance of these holidays in the face of Christmas 2020. Or should we talk about the new Christmas or the non-Christmas? What is clear is that, even though we cannot make the famous “December weekend getaway” in this post, we propose some plans so that you can enjoy your city, as much as possible. Here we go!

Reinvented Christmas Markets

The Christmas markets are a classic at this time. This year, due to the capacity control, the safety distance, and the crowds, the visit to the Christmas markets will not be the same. Even so, if you are a fan of crafts, sweets, and other market items, you can continue visiting them.

In Madrid, you can visit the famous Plaza Mayor Market which for the first time will coexist with the terraces. Although, we recommend that you do not go at peak times to avoid the crowds. If you are not a fan of these traditional markets, you can take a tour of the local stores in the center of the capital, where you will surely find the odd idea for your end of the year gifts. We love Lata Peinada, a bookstore in the Malasaña neighborhood that will leave you indifferent. Nor can we resist Sufu Café, the first bakery specialized in soufflé pancakes, the Asian pancakes that are also successful in the US (and on Instagram).

The perfect days for a good exhibition

These days, the cold is going to hit most of the country hard. Surely you have to dedicate most of the day to exams and deliveries of work before Christmas. But, if you like art and keep up to date with cultural events in your city, don’t hesitate to take a break. This December holiday go to visit museums such as the Tyssen or the Reina Sofía, which have really interesting temporary exhibitions. PS: General admission is free on Mondays.

Our recommendation is the exhibition “Bansky. The Street is “ in which you will be able to discover the work of this famous unknown Briton. An unpublished exhibition that you can visit at El Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid.

Gastronomy, a must on holidays

Gastronomic plans cannot be missing in our recommendations for holidays. For this occasion we want you to go and enjoy some alternative hot drinks. It is the Beefeater Xmas Market in Madrid. These people have decided to turn the Tayrona Terrace of Casa de América (Plaza de Cibeles s / n) into a kind of Christmas market where you can buy gifts, listen to music and, in the style of German markets, have a hot wine, which in these dates feel great.

It seems to us a perfect plan to spend the December holiday outdoors, but without getting cold, enjoying good music and good drinks. Do you dare?
